To our English speaking friends
Hi everyone
We would like to summarize the Emergency Food Run's urgent trip to Caritas' distribution center in Lezajsk in March 2022. Just on the border with Ukraine (near Lviv). That summary can be done in two words: unconditional success !
We started planning on Saturday March 5th, then with nothing but an idea , a week later we delivered the emergency aid 1998 km from home. From Monday to Wednesday we went from being 2 to being 6 people spread over 3 Teslas. We brought with us primarily food; canned food, infant formula and baby food. But also first aid equipment and hygienic items, as well as lots of diapers. A big thank you to the crew, Maria and Snorre Farner, Erik, Christer, Mike og Sean Christopher, my wingman and thank you guys for making this Run to something else than first intended, you brought with you 11 Ukraninan refugees to Norway.
From Monday 7 - 10 March, we collected a total of NOK 110,000,- (just under $ 11 000,-) in provisions, equipment and cash, that were reinvested in baby food.
It's pretty amazing story and gives me hope that good will defeat evil. We got donations from both companies, private individuals and St. Svithun parish in Stavanger. Even from the USA donations came via paypal. Thank you all very much, you know who you are and know this; it took less than three hours from the time we arrived at Caritas until the supplies were in Lviv, Ukraine
Another important point is, why not just support the Red Cross or similar someone might say. This is a private initiative, with private supporters, a grassroots action. I doubt we had managed to create the same commitment by doing something different. The most important point comes from Caritas, which has a statistic on the relief work they carry out. They state that, subject to weekly variables, support from grassroots actions such as ours constitutes between 15-20% of all emergency aid transported into Ukraine. Think about it, 15-20%. There are vans from Portugal, Ireland, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, from most countries. They all bring with them what they have managed to collect locally. So yes, this matters, what you have been through makes a difference and we are eternally grateful to you for the support you gave us so that with your support we could help those in Ukraine.
Slava Ukraini! GLORY TO UKRAINE !!! This slogan was banned during all the years of Soviet rule by the way, but is now being proclaimed throughout Ukraine and in the rest of the world, SLAVA UKRAINI !!!!
